Featured on Architecture AU: Elevating Joinery Customisation

A recent feature on ArchitectureAU explored how Fliplab is raising the standard of joinery customisation - making it more accessible, flexible, and design-led.

At the centre of this is a belief our founder, Sacha Leagh-Murray, strongly stands by: great design doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive to achieve.

For many homeowners, what matters most isn’t complexity but the ability to create a space that feels personal. That expression often comes through surface-level decisions, where colour, texture, and profile define the overall character of a kitchen, laundry, or bedroom.

Fliplab responds to this by pairing traditional flatpack cabinetry with custom fronts, using Australian-made doors and panels from local producers such as Laminex and Polytec. These are designed to integrate seamlessly with trusted systems such as IKEA and Bunnings’ Kaboodle, allowing homeowners to build on a reliable foundation instead of starting from scratch, and focus their attention on the elements that shape how a space looks and feels.

This approach expands what’s possible within standard cabinetry.

We developed 12 distinct profiles, alongside more than 100 colour and finish options—from minimalist flat and slim shaker styles to more detailed scalloped and framed-edge designs, giving real flexibility to create spaces that feel considered and expressive.

The result is a different way of thinking about joinery. Not as something that needs to be fully custom to feel intentional, but as a system that allows for creativity within a practical framework.

That was the core of what we shared in the feature.

Because at  Fliplab, we believe good design isn’t defined by complexity or cost, but by how thoughtfully custom cabinetry and cabinetry doors reflect the people who live in a space.
